Privacy policy

In short: if you fill in our join form, we keep your name, phone number and email address so we can contact you about membership. We don't sell or share them, we don't use cookies or tracking, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.
Who we are
This website is run by Weempers Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society ("Weempers MPCS", "we", "us"), a member-driven cooperative society. We decide how the personal data described here is used, which makes us its data controller under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

What this policy covers
This policy covers our website at weempers.com and the join form on it. The Weempers member app, when it is available, will have its own privacy policy, because it handles different information.
What we collect
When you fill in the join form, we collect your first and last name, your phone number, whether you use WhatsApp on that number, and your email address.
When you visit the site, the companies that host it record basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your visit, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. When you submit the form, we also use your IP address briefly to stop repeated automated submissions. It is held in memory only and is not stored with your details.
We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels. If you choose a light or dark theme, that preference is saved in your own browser and never sent to us.
Why we use it
We use the details from the join form for one purpose: to contact you about becoming a member, by WhatsApp, phone or email. When you submit the form, we email you a confirmation and send your details by email to our membership team so they can get in touch. We rely on your consent, which you give by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time.
We use technical information to run the website securely, which is in our legitimate interest and yours.
We do not use your information for marketing lists, profiling or automated decisions.
Storage outside Nigeria
Your details are stored in Germany, and our backups are kept in the United States. Backups are encrypted before they leave our database, with a key that only the Society holds, so the company storing them cannot read them. We choose providers that commit to protecting data they process for us.
How long we keep it
We keep your join-form details for up to 24 months after we last contacted you, unless you become a member or ask us to delete them sooner.
Deleted details can remain in our encrypted backups for up to 90 days, after which those backups are permanently removed.
How we protect it
The site and form use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to the database is restricted, backups are encrypted, and the form is protected against automated abuse. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your information;
- stop or limit how we use it;
- send your information to you or another organisation in a usable format.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. To make any of these requests, contact us at [privacy contact email: to be confirmed]. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
Our website and join form are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be made clear on the website.
